This is a tilting plate mechanism that fits under the seat of an office chair. As pictured, it is a black plate with mounting holes at the corners, a tension knob for the tilt and a lever arm for the hydraulic.
When a chair rocks loosely, will not lock or the height lever has snapped, the mechanism is usually the part to replace. Swapping it in keeps a reception or office chair in service without buying a new one.
